The Blue Ribbon Panel recognizes that the most effective teacher preparation programs are clinically embedded, reality-based, and focused on how teachers impact their students’ learning. The Panel’s report offers a set of program design principles emphasizing strategic partnerships among preparation programs, schools, and policymakers. These design principles have been evident in present innovative practices such as professional development schools and teacher residency programs. A climate of innovation is needed to bring promising programs of this type to scale, and the BRP report will hopefully advance the conversation toward that end.
