"NCATE is the best friend teacher education has at this very trying point in history." Walter Oldendorf, Dean of Education, The University of Montana-Western
This section is designed for institutions that are preparing for a visit after being placed on probation. Probation is an accreditation decision that indicates that the unit did not meet one or more of the NCATE standards, and has pervasive problems that limit its capacity to offer quality programs that adequately prepare candidates. If accreditation with probation is granted, the unit must schedule an on-site visit within 18 - 24 months of the semester in which the probationary decision was rendered.
The unit must address all NCATE standards in effect at the time of the probationary visit. This visit will mirror the process for continuing accreditation. If the state partnership agreement requires programs to be submitted for national review, all programs that are not currently nationally recognized must be submitted in the semester before the visit. After the visit, the UAB will decide to (1) continue accreditation or (2) revoke accreditation. See Accreditation Decisions. If accreditation is continued, the next on-site visit is scheduled five years after the semester of the probationary visit. This section includes information to assist institutions in preparing for a probation visit.
