President Barack Obama to Speak to America's Students

At 12:00 p.m., Eastern Time (ET), President Barack Obama will deliver a national address to the students of America. (Please note that this is a change from the originally scheduled time.) During this special address, the president will speak directly to the nation’s children and youth about persisting and succeeding in school. The president will challenge students to work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for their learning.

The U.S. Department of Education encourages students of all ages, teachers, and administrators to participate in this historic moment by watching the president deliver the address, which will be broadcast live on the White House Web site and on C-SPAN at 12:00 p.m., ET.


2010 CHEA Award for Institutional Practice in Student Learning Outcomes
Evidence of student achievement, student learning outcomes, plays an increasingly important role in discussions of higher education accountability, quality and effectiveness. At the same time, developing and using capacity to address student learning outcomes is a complex and significant challenge for colleges and universities, whether pursued at the level of an institution, a program or a major. This award acknowledges outstanding practices in developing and applying evidence of student learning outcomes as part of the ongoing accountability evaluation and improvement of college and university programs of study.

NCATE Explores Intersection Between Urban Teacher Residency Programs and Higher Education

NCATE and TEAC Boards Give Green Light for Future System of Teacher Education Accreditation

McLean, Dean and University Professor, College of Education, The University of AlabamaDr. McLean is currently a Board of Trustees University Professor and the Dean of the College of Education at The University of Alabama. He has graduate training in statistics, measurement, evaluation, research, and educational psychology coupled with 35 years experience teaching and researching in these areas. He also has over 25 years of administrative experience as a program chair, area head, director, assistant dean, and dean. During the past 35 years he has directed, co-directed, or administered well over funded 100 research, assessment, and evaluation projects funded for more than six million dollars.

UF education dean Catherine Emihovich elected president of Holmes Partnership
Catherine Emihovich, dean of the College of Education at the University of FloridaCatherine Emihovich, dean of the College of Education at the University of Florida, has been elected president of the Holmes Partnership, a consortium of local and national education interests dedicated to equitable education and reform in teaching and learning.

Emihovich, formerly the group’s vice president for research, only started her presidency in January, but she voices high hopes for what she believes the organization can accomplish during her three-year term and beyond. Read more...

A Framework for Research on Professional Development Schools, by Jeanne Tunks and Jane Neapolitan, provides a developmental approach for research on professional development schools. The authors have developed a framework to guide researchers designing research methods that are effective and appropriate to the different developmental stages of individual professional development schools. These developmental stages are outlined in the Standards for Professional Development Schools, published by NCATE. The PDS standards were conceived and developed by NCATE, through extensive collaboration with PDS networks and institutions in the field. New PDS Resource Organized Around NCATE PDS Standards
A new publication, Professional Development Schools: Enhancing Teacher Quality, edited by Richard E. Ishler, is a new resource/textbook for universities and for P-12 schools considering PDS partnerships. The book is organized around the NCATE Standards for PDSs. It is the result of four years of work initiated by the Pennsylvania Academy for the Profession of Teaching and Learning, and was continued and expanded through a Teacher Quality Enhancement Grant, which includes the efforts of the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
